Honey Stinger Review 2010

"Personally, I'm always searching for ways to optimize my training as well as nutrition.  The Honey Stinger Protein bars have helped to fill a void in my nutrition 'arsenal'.  After years of eating energy bars on and off the bike, these bars provide a tasty, healthy alternative as they are sweetened with honey and have a lower glycemic index than bars with less protein and fat.  These are my new pre-race meal (usually with a banana) about 3 hours before a long ride.  I used this formula without fail for every long ride or race I completed last year and eliminated the GI issues that seemed to accompany other options.  Now with the new smaller size, I have a great option for a snack in the afternoon or a pre-ride meal when I want to keep my blood sugar stable (devastatingly tasty with a cup of coffee!) .  Even my picky wife has now made these her choice over Clif's Mojo bars.  An added bonus, for my fellow Primal eaters is that they do not contain grains. Enjoy!!

Bicycling Review

Issue: Apr 2009
Editorial Review
I’ve had the same high-zoot shades for years. I won them somewhere and like them well enough. But they’re flashy, so this year I went looking for specs that do their job well yet only emit a quiet confidence. I started with Rudy Project, a name that’s synonymous with high quality technical eyewear. Rudy’s aren’t cheap, but I’ll pay for value if that’s what I get. Eyes are important, right? I set $200-250 aside for shades I know I’ll get a few years out of.

I settled on the Noyz, which I’ll get to in a moment. My research stopped when I discovered Rudy Project’s Free Gear Deal (more at Rudy’s website). For the coin I budgeted for performance specs, Rudy Project was offering a sunglass kit PLUS a Slinger helmet, Rudy duffel bag, spare lenses, T-shirt and cap for free. Can you beat that in this economy? Not me—especially since my gear is worse for the wear these days, and this gear is good.

Rudy’s Free Gear Deal offers 12 different sunglass models with endless frame and lens options. I chose the Noyz because they’re light, flexible and infinitely interchangeable. The QuickChange lenses pop in and out easily, and the Ergo IV nosepiece and tips conform to your features. I’ll be honest, what sold me was they looked cool, Matte Black evokes the subtle vibe I’m going for and Rudy’s promise of great gear for one price. Cha-ching!

For lenses, I picked Rudy’s ImpactX Photochromatic Clear, which shift from light to dark as quick as ever-changing conditions. Rudy claims they’re unbreakable and guarantees the ImpactX for life, so that was worth a $30 upgrade to me. For spare lenses, I nabbed Racing Reds. Between the two I’m covered in low-light, bright sun, overcast and flat conditions. Their visual acuity is crisp, clear and exceptional in texture recognition and detail, which is what you pay for. In my experience, bargain optics go blah when the light is low.

The Noyz are compatible with Rudy’s RX Insert and RX Direct Interchangeable lens programs, which means the visually challenged cyclist can fit this frame with prescription lenses for a seamless athletic experience. —Liz Reap Carlson
