Andy Applegate

Racing age in 2010: 44

Height: 5’8”

146 lbs

Goals: To bring his 20 years of racing experience to the 2010 team, to help guide the team on and off the bike.

 

Andy started racing mountain bikes in the early ‘90s.  After racing the national circuit for several years he turned his attention to road racing in 1998. He won his first of 9 national championship titles in 2001. For nearly 20 years he has been competing at the elite level in road, mountain bike, and cyclocross events.

 

Highlights of his career include winning the 2001 Masters 35+ National Road Race Title, the 2006 Masters 40+ National Time Trial Championship, two-time Mixed Tandem Masters National Road Race championship, two-time Mixed Elite Time Trial Championship, and being a two-time silver medalist at the 35+ Masters National Cyclocross Championships. He also was a member of the 2008 silver medal team at the 24-hour Mountain Bike National Championships.

 

Andy has been coaching cyclists full time since moving to the Asheville area in 2001. He is currently a Pro level coach with Carmichael Training Systems.

 

Andy currently lives in Black Mountain, NC with his wife, two cats, and two hives full of bees.
