After spending four years running at an elite level in high school, Eric needed a new venue for competition since all the collegiate runners had the build of runners and were subsequently much much faster. He found work in a bike shop and things took off from there. Eric started racing mountain bikes in 2006 with some promising results. Once fall came around, it was only natural for him to try cyclocross. After doing three races, winning two including a state championship, cross became his main focus. In 2006 he went on to get a top 10 finishes at the iceman cometh mountain bike event along with two wins and a b-men's state championship in cross. He started racing pro cross in Michigan in 2007 with some strong finishes and a U-23 championship. After several top 10s in road, mountain and 'cross events, Eric was sidelined in 2008 after having a golf ball sized cyst removed from his kidney.
Eric moved to Asheville in 2009 and has built reputation as an aggressive rider and strong climber. Eric had another strong 'cross season in 2009, placing in the top 6 in the 6 local pro series races. He has high goals for his first fully dedicated road season and he's going to do whatever the team calls on him for. He's going to have even higher goals for cyclocross as he'll be in his second season as a dedicated traveling pro. He's going to be traveling and racing almost all the UCI and USGP races in the east and looking to get some top fifteen finishes.
Eric works for Industry Nine building wheels and in his spare time he does some design work for them as well. If he's not on his bike, he's eating huge amounts of food, drinking the best Belgian beer he can find or looking up crazy stuff on the internet. -- ERIC MUEHL
