Thomas is a former pro soccer player turned cyclist after suffering a career ending knee injury in '98. He started cycling for rehab and then attended a cycling camp held by Davis Phinney, who became his mentor/coach for the next season. After winning several races in the Southeast he upgraded in just over a year from Cat.5 to Cat. 2. In '00 Thomas was invited to train, then race with Cantina Tollo in Italy as a Dellatante. In '01 he moved to Boulder, CO to race for Mercury which turned into signing with Pro Peloton (Elite team) after Viatel dropped it's sponsorship from Mercury. Thomas’ passion for cycling continued as he moved back to the Southeast to Asheville, NC. From 2007 to 2009 Thomas has singlehandedly won both master’s and pro races month after month. He has picked up many nicknames throughout his racing career, including "Thomas the Tank” and “Superman.” He has high expectations for himself in providing results for the team in 2010 and he plans on exceeding them with plans of racing in the pro ranks again. Thomas’ natural dedication and passion for cycling makes his daily training and racing the favorite part of his life. His focus and determination is undoubtedly going to catapult him forward into many more years of a successful cycling career.
